LoL Tier List for All Roles, Platinum + Patch 12.17 (Last Updated September 2022)
League Of Legends Tier List
If you’ve ever been even remotely involved with gaming, chances are you have probably heard about League of Legends. First released in 2009 by Riot Games, League has established itself as the top multiplayer online battle arena(MOBA) in the world and one of the most popular games ever. It is safe to say that League has played the most important role in defining its genre.
Not only does the game offer stellar gameplay mechanics but also the in-game content seems to be never-ending. With new content, champions, and features being added regularly, League has managed to remain at the top of the esports industry for many years. This is in part due to a highly competitive, dedicated community of over 150 million players actively keeping League in the top charts.
There aren’t a lot of games that can boast the popularity and longevity that League of Legends has enjoyed. One of the prime reasons that people never seemed to get bored of the three-time ‘Best Esport Game’ award winner is its constant introduction of new and powerful playable characters called ‘champions’. League has an extensive roster of champions with more than 140 characters actively present for players to choose from.
The sheer number of champions along with a steep learning curve makes the game especially difficult to learn for beginners. You might be facing the same problem as a beginner. Therefore, we have compiled this League of Legends Tier List in order for you to distinguish between the best and worst champions, making it easy for you to go for a specific character.
Due to regular patches and modifications from Riot, the character rankings are constantly changed. So, it can be difficult to keep up with the game all the time. Our LoL Tier List is based on the latest patches, making it reliably current.
S-Tier
These are the characters that we have found to be the most well-rounded in almost any role you put them in. they can be used proficiently as Top Laners, Junglers, Supports or Bottom, they can really do it all.
Champions in the S-Tier are some of the best the game has to offer. Some of these characters weren’t as versatile and flexible in previous patches as they are now. This can be associated with the nerfs and buffs certain characters have been projected to in the recent patch.
All in all, you can almost never go wrong with these Champions, and a little effort directed towards learning their mechanics will go a long way. Always remember the fact that if you don’t know the basics, even the best champions in League can fail you.

A-Tier
Next up on our list, are some of the toughest characters in the game with a solid hold in a variety of roles and a good win rate. These champions are well-versed in League gameplay and will allow you to devise excellent working strategies to win your match.
Any veteran League player will most likely have at least some of these in their team. They are well-balanced, malleable, and strong.
In short, these top-notch A-Tier Champions will likely never disappoint you and you can rely on them in even the toughest situations in-game. Nonetheless, you will have to dedicate a fair amount of time and effort to learning the game’s mechanics and experimenting with these champions.

B-Tier
The character roster in League is absolutely massive. These characters need to be fitted into one of five roles in a team-based setting. In this list, we’ve included characters that work well in their own specific roles. These Champions are all fairly above-average and will perform their duties to the best of their ability.
This does not mean that these Champions lack versatility, in fact, some of them can work in multiple roles but they don’t really match up with A or S-tier characters. Nonetheless, they will still be able to give you the strategic and intense League gameplay that everyone craves.
All in all, these Champions are reliable with regards to their own duties and can perform well in certain high-demand situations. But you will need to dutifully practice with them and get a hold of their abilities the best you can. They’ll only be able to serve you to their full potential if you are willing to learn and prioritize your efforts toward them.

C-Tier
In this Tier, most of the characters a relatively below-average with abilities that don’t really help a lot, especially in intense settings. Generally speaking, these Champions suffer from a meager win rate and lack strategic depth.
If you were to choose any of these Champions for your team, you would need to have strong supporting characters as most of them don’t show much promise in their respective roles. Versatility is not expected of them but their less-than-optimal performance in almost every role adds to their despair.
Overall, you’re better off not selecting these Champions, even more so as a beginner. It would require an experienced League veteran to work with these and actually take something good out of a match.

D-Tier
As per the current patch 12.18, these are considered to be the weakest Champions in League of Legends. If you’re not the most experimental League player, it is recommended that you don’t select these.
Their overall performance has not been satisfactory, even in the roles they claim to support. You will most likely be quite upset with their gameplay and League’s community isn’t really known for their best behavior towards weaker players.

Best Characters According to Role
In order to make it easier for players to select a character according to the specific roles they are aiming for, we’ve decided to include the champions who are best suited for a particular role, in addition to our overall tier list. This will make it quite easy for players who are just starting out to decide what characters will be optimal for their team.
Top Lane
Being in the Top Lane requires the ability to take heavy damage while also being able to run down your enemies, most of the time single-handedly. You can’t really ally with any other champion when you are in the top lane. So, basically, you’re on your own.
Below are two of our top picks for the top lane.
Singed
Although he has been through a lot of modifications this season, Singed is still a prime top lane unit. He’s incredibly strong and his win rate is off the charts for now. He is quite durable and his movement speed is unbelievable.
Whenever he gets ahead initially, he will simply run into enemies and deal with them, sometimes flinging them back at his team. Moreover, Signed has a high rate of damage over time. All these characteristics make him a top-tier pick for the top lane, skyrocketing his demand.
Olaf
Another great Champion for the Top, Olaf is an exciting character with a lot of fun and engagement in his gameplay. He’s a proper tank that can absorb ridiculous amounts of damage while also inflicting tons of damage on his opponents.
If you aim to really get into combat and stay ahead of your team, Olaf is the perfect unit for that. He’s a powerful warrior that will help you really get the most out of your Top gameplay
Jungle
The main purpose of a Jungler is to dish out neutral monsters hiding in Jungles. These Champions need to be solid Bruisers that have the ability to absorb damage and return it in the real sense of the word. A lot of Champions for example Tanks and Assassins can fit into this category.
Our top Junglers are;
Bel’Veth
Bel’Veth is known for her speed and mobility. Her damage output is quite high, and she doesn’t care whether she’s in small skirmishes or time-consuming strategic fights.
Her crowd control is also quite commendable and she can walk through many enemies with ease. Bel’Veth is definitely up there in the Jungler role of honor.
FiddleSticks
Excellent crowd control due to powerful Area-of-Effect damage, great speed, and solid abilities are some of the few attributes we would use to define Fiddlesticks. He will clear enemies faster than you would think. Moreover, he has some really useful farming abilities as well.
Undoubtedly, a top jungler with an impressive win rate, you should definitely include Fiddle in your next team play.
Mid Lane
Champions placed in the Mid Lane are typically those that can inflict a good amount of burst damage and can target multiple enemies in order to assist their team. You can experiment with a lot of Champions in this position, but our top picks are mentioned below;
Zed
Zed is an agile Assassin dealing a relatively large amount of burst damage. He can harass his opponents with his powerful shadows, constantly damaging the opposite lane.
Moreover, his Ultimate allows him to become truly overpowered giving excellent crowd control. His quick flashy combos and sharp attack prove to be the bane of his enemies. Zed is, by all means, a top-tier mid-laner.
Heimerdinger
Another excellent choice for the Mid Lane, Heimerdinger’s burst damage is almost legendary. Ready to zone his enemies with those powerful turrets of his, he does not care what the enemy ranks have to offer.
Moreover, Heimerdinger can absolutely destroy melee enemies with his formidable range. In short, you can never go wrong with this Champion in the Mid.
Bottom Lane
Bottom Lane Champions carry an extremely important responsibility with them. They are positioned to collect as much gold as possible, which will later be required for all-important items and upgrades. Below are the best Bottom Lane characters the game has to offer;
Caitlyn
We firmly believe that Caitlyn’s ability as a Bottom laner is under-appreciated and overshadowed by some of her other not-so-optimal roles. She has a devastatingly long range and can stop several other lanes from a distance. Her gameplay is engaging and fun to play.
She might suffer at the hands of some enemy lanes but using her ultimate grants her the agility she needs to go through. A good choice for the Bottom, she just needs a little practice to reach her full potential.
Jhin
Jhin is a beast, and his gameplay reinforces that notion time and again. He has incredible burst damage and can deal with multiple enemies with ease. His Ultimate allows him to literally snipe enemies from a good distance. Moreover, his passive abilities give him some solid damage over time.
As soon as you use your abilities, your enemies will know only pain. A top-tier bottom laner by any definition you can think of.
Support
The role of Supporting Champions is to do just that i.e. provide vital support to other Champions in the team wherever needed. Some of the best support units we’ve found are;
Morgana
Morgana might not directly engage in combat but that does not mean that she isn’t useful. She can use her abilities to shield herself or her team, protecting them from enemy attacks.
Moreover, she can lock her opponents in place and deal damage using her cursed magic. A great support character all in all.
Pyke
A powerful warrior who can carry the team through even the most intense situations, Pyke is a top-notch support unit. He will damage enemies and help his team by defending them with full force.
Moreover, as you get more experienced with Pyke, you can actually get more things done with him due to his high skill ceiling. He is not the kind of Champion that disappoints.
Tier List Criteria and Methodology
In our League Tier List, we have ranked champions according to their recent overall performance and their win rates, considering all the nerfs and buffs that have been added in current patches. Along with extensive research from top-tier publications and expert opinion.
We believe that everyone can have their own subjective experiences, especially with games like League, but the majority opinion in the community is definitely given credence in our listing. Our list gives a good idea of the competitive viability of every champion in the game’s meta.
We hope this Tier list serves you well in your LoL journey, Good luck!
