Pokemon UNITE is a strategic Multiplayer Online Battle Arena(MOBA) developed by the Pokemon Company, in collaboration with renowned gaming studio Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios. Released in July 2021, the game has attracted one of the world’s largest and most dedicated fanbases to a completely new setting.

Tier List

The game consists of two teams engaged in strategic combat in a 5-vs-5 match. Many of the iconic characters from the show are present in-game and their abilities have been replicated, giving fans all over the world something to swoon over. The game has seen a rapid surge in popularity ever since its release and is now breaking it in the competitive market.

With an extensive roster of 42 characters and a relatively steeper learning curve, the game can be daunting to look at for a beginner. Well, worry not! For we are here to help you with your dilemmas. What character to start out with? What are the most useful abilities? All of these questions shall be answered in our comprehensive Pokemon UNITE Tier List.

S-Tier

These are currently the most well-balanced and effective characters in the meta. Pokemon in the S-tier are the most powerful the game has to offer. There isn’t a lot to be said except you can’t ever go wrong with any of these in your arsenal.

With some practice, you’ll be able to absolutely smash your opposition with these.

Mew

Mew is a powerful attacker known for his massive damage output and unique abilities. The pokemon can string different combos from six available moves. He excels at targetting enemies at a distance using his impressive Solar Beam.

In addition to that, you can essentially change Mew’s playstyle using his Move Reset mechanic. This will allow him to go from offensive to defensive anytime depending on the situation at hand. These traits make Mew highly effective in combat and an excellent choice for your team.

Tsareena

One of the game’s best All-rounders, Tsareena is here to put its enemies to shame. Being an all-rounder, Tsareena is able to both inflict and sustain a decent amount of damage, even after recent damage nerfs while also passively recovering lost HP. It has decent crowd control and can deal significant AoE damage using its Queenly Majesty move.

Moreover, Tsareena is a great disabler with Queen Ascendant being one of the most formidable disables in the game. Overall, Tsareena offers the complete pack and is one of our top picks.

Snorlax

Snorlax might appear a bit lazy, but that does not undermine its solid defenses. Being a Defender, Snorlax acts as a firm tank that can soak up a lot of damage for the team. It has massive Hp and good crowd control due to its Heavy Slam, making him highly effective in team fights.

Moreover, his block can be used to put enemies into highly compromising positions. Overall, a strong defender with high endurance and excellent team play.

Pikachu

Pikachu is a true powerhouse when it comes to his proficiency as an Attacker. Its signature Electro Ball can stun and paralyze enemies in a good AoE. Pikachu has a ridiculously high damage output and it can provide consistent damage at all stages of the game.

Moreover, Pikachu’s Unite has a fast cooldown rate, allowing it to sustain a surge in power and damage whenever it needs. A great attacker overall with a knack for inflicting pain upon its enemies.

Absol

Absol is a premier Speedster that can inflict decent damage in a relatively short time. It has a high critical hit rate, allowing it to finish its enemies in a matter of seconds. Not only that, but its Unite move is very effective in close combat situations. It will clear lanes with excellent speed and precision due to its high mobility.

Absol’s mastery in early game is quite commendable and it is very reliable when dealing with single targets.

Hoopa

Hoopa is an excellent Support unit, so much so that it’s too good to be true. The damage output that Hoopa offers is much higher than your average support type. Hoopa’s teleportation ability makes it a great asset for the team as it offers many strategic advantages.

Additionally, Hoopa will also heal itself regularly and increase the team’s defensive capabilities due to its tanky nature. Overall, a great support that can carry the team in the most intense situations with ease.

Tyranitar

Tyranitar is a formidable All-rounder that deserves to be on the front lines. It has good defensive capabilities and excellent crowd control. AoE attacks like Sand Tomb make it easier to attack multiples enemies and push lanes forward.

Even though it’s premier Tyrannical Rampage move has been nerfed to not land critical hits, it can still dominate team fights due to moves like Ancient Power. Overall, a highly dependable Pokemon with well-rounded offensive and defensive capabilities.

A-Tier

Next up, we have characters that are strong and have high combat utility. These Pokemon are exceptionally good at their own roles while also providing some utility in other positions as well.

No matter how you look at it, these A-Listers will not disappoint you in any way.

Alolan Ninetales

Ninetales is a proficient Attacker with some solid crowd control abilities in his arsenal. In addition to high attack damage with abilities like Aurora Veil, the pokemon is also able to provide a decent amount of support to its allies. It can freeze enemies in place through its Unite, providing exceptional crowding abilities, especially for an attack type.]

Although Ninetales can potentially suffer a bit in the late game, his ability to hinder enemies is useful at all times. A great pick overall.

Blastoise

It’s hard to believe that Blastoise is only a Defender, considering its massive damage output and extreme crowd control. Its Unite move has excellent range and through Surf it can displace enemies. When on low health, the pokemon’s damage output becomes exceptionally high.

Moreover, Blastoise’s premier move Hydro Typhoon has a solid AoE, making it a top-notch option for team fights. All in all, Blastoise will make sure your team is well-defended.

Aegislash

A powerful All-rounder, by all means, Aegislash has an intrinsic proclivity towards combat. It has significantly deadly offensive and defensive capabilities that make him a top-pick for any close-quarter situation. The pokemon’s shield form will recover Hp and soak-up damage by altering its boosted attacks.

Additionally, the sword form can increase the overall damage output. Aegislash is a bit difficult to master, but once you get a hold of him, he is extremely dangerous.

Azumaril

Azumaril is a decent All-rounder that scales quite well in early game. Through its Aqua Tail ability, it is able to hit distant enemies from a good range. Moreover, Huge power allows him to consistently deal critical strikes that make him an excellent choice for single targets.

Azumaril’s unite does take a toll on his health but overall, his utility in combat easily compensates for this.

Dragonite

An All-rounder with ranged abilities, Dragonite is a very interesting pick. Its Hyper Beam allows it to deal decent burst damage, providing some crowd control as well. Dragonite’s Unite move has a large area and gives him the ability to help his teammates in scoring goals.

Moreover, its abilities allow him to easily dodge shields. Overall, Dragonite is well-rounded pokemon with an exceptionally strong late game.

Greninja

Greninja is a solid Attacker with deadly mobility and precision. Its rapid Dash moves allow it to adopt a speedster-like profile and give it some decent crowd control. This also results in Greninja being able to easily deal with Wild Pokemon.

Greninja has the speed and versatility required for a fast-paced attacker. Moreover, its an excellent Nuker. A great pick for inflicting some quick and useful attack damage.

Machamp

Machamp is a well-versed All-Rounder with an extremely high damage output that allows it to dominate the battlefield. It will almost always come out on top in close combat due to its powerful offensive attacks. Moreover, its Unite move works very well in team-based environments.

Even though some of the pokemon’s moves were nerfed substantially, it still dominates its opponents provided it scales well in early game.

Blissey

Blissey is a reliable support unit that boasts a fairly high Hp. It can provide decent shielding and healing to the team and will also buff their attack speed. While Blissey is not very high on damage output, it can still debuff enemies, hence aiding in combat.

Blissey is an efficient healer, her Soft-Boiled healing being incredibly potent. Overall, we’d say that Blissey is quite dependable and one of the best when it comes to healing.

Greedent

Greedent is a great defender with exceptional mobility, which it uses to confuse enemies and divert their attention. The pokemon is extremely agile and the relatively high damage output enables him to create a lot of chaos on the battlefield. When low on hp, it can regenerate itself as well as its allies using its Berries.

To top that off, it can deal some solid burst damage via its Belch move. Overall, Greedent is a formidable character on the field that can easily outpace opponents while dealing some heavy damage.

Lucario

An All-rounder in the true sense of the word, Lucario is impressively strong, fast, and tanky. Its damage output is great, rivaled only by its defensive capability. In addition to that, Lucario has great mobility and is quite fast. Moreover, the Unite move is perfect for dealing with targets at a range.

All in all, Lucario essentially gives us everything we want in an All-rounder i.e. the strength of an attacker, the defense of a Defender, and the agility of a Speedster.

Cinderace

Cinderace is a powerful Attacker that can rapidly deal high amounts of damage to his enemies. You can almost never go wrong with a pokemon that offers both speed and attack power, and Cinderace is one of the best in that regard. It can also use a variety of ranged attacks to target enemies at distance, this includes its impressive Unite as well.

Its true potential can be seen in late game when it helps the team to the fullest. In short, Cindrace is a dodgy Attacker that can bypass enemies with ease and deal solid damage.

Glaceon

Even though it offers less damage over time, Glaceon is still an extremely solid Attacker. It can deal some massive damage to its opponents by barraging them with ice crystals.

Moreover, its Snow Cloak ability allows it to negate crowd control, in turn boosting its survivability. Overall, Glaceon is a smooth and agile Attacker that can be really useful in late-game.

Delphox

Delphox is a decent Attacker known for its versatility and high damage output. It carries a variety of ranged attacks which need to be correctly timed to work properly. Furthermore, Delphox has an inventory filled with disables and debuffs such as Fire Spin, which provides excellent crowd control as well.

It can also slow enemies down and inhibit their Hp recovery using his abilities. Delphox is a versatile and admirable attacker overall.

Gardevoir

Giving out exceptionally high burst damage, Gardevoir is an efficient Attacker. The important thing about Gardevoir is its incredibly effective crowd control due to its Unite, which is considered the best in the game. It can also provide some good ranged disables.

Moreover, it can use its Teleport ability to easily get in and out of battles and instantly charge its moves, which require no cooldown. In short, Gardevoir’s toolkit is formidable and it can give quite a challenge to enemies.

Decideueye

A top-tier Attacker, Decidueye’s damage output is incredibly impressive, putting its opponents to shame. It is an excellent option for team fights as it can target multiple enemies at once while also approaching objectives head-on. Its barrage of Boosted attacks offers a high critical hit rate and consequently, high damage.

Even though it lacks proper mobility, it can still inflict considerable ranged damage. A great offensive pokemon overall, Decidueye punishes its enemies hard.

Buzzwole

A great All-rounder, Buzzwole’s damage infliction and support games are top-tier. Abilities like Superpower allow it to displace its enemies, giving it an edge at close range.

Moreover, Buzzwole can constantly recover Hp through some of its attacks and provide consistent utility to the team. Overall, the pokemon can deal good damage and can even completely isolate enemies with the right combos.

B-Tier

These Pokemon have shown average or sometimes above-average performance on the battlefield. They work decently in their own specified roles but don’t have a lot of versatility in their gameplay. You’ll have to put in quite a bit of effort if you aim to get ahead in the game with these.

Sylveon

Sylveon has good mobility for an Attack-type along with decent damage output. Furthermore, it can inflict a fair amount of burst damage. Its Draining Kiss ability enables it to recover Hp and sustain itself in fights.

Although Sylveon encourages an aggressive gameplay style yet some of his more powerful moves need proper positioning to work efficiently, making them difficult to use during combat.

Talonflame

With Talonmflame, chasing your enemies becomes very easy due to its high mobility. Being a Speedster, Talonflame is incredibly agile and can inflict high burst damage. Furthermore, its Unite move will drive the entire enemy team away, making it easier for the team to score goals.

It does have its weaknesses though, as it is quite fragile and some unadministered flights might result in it getting punished severely.

Dodrio

With quick attacks and relatively low cooldowns, Dodrio is the Speedster that can snatch goals from the enemy team. Like many other Speedster units, it offers high mobility and decent burst damage. Its Sprint Gauge reduces the overall cooldown required for moves.

Overall, Dodrio offers some really decent roaming nonetheless, it is quite fragile and most of its skills require a fair bit of positioning that limits its usage.

Gengar

Gengar is a debuff-applying Speedster that likes to discreetly approach its enemies. Even though its Hex/Sludge Bomb has been nerfed recently but it can still inflict a fair amount of damage for a Speedster. Its gameplay is stealth-based, consequently, it’s quite difficult to notice it.

But, all that in mind, Gengar suffers a lot in the late-game, when the combat gets intense and there’s little to no room for stealth.

Mamoswine

An extremely bulky Defender, Mamoswine excels at disabling its opponents. It has some admirable crowd control moves in its arsenal, which allow it to stomp and freeze enemies. Moreover, it can stay in fights for a considerably longer duration of time.

You still have to time its moves correctly for maximum effect, plus the bulky nature of the Pokemon allows it to take a lot of hits.

Wigglytuff

Once considered the best support in the game, Wigglytuff deals a commendable amount of damage for a support unit. Moreover, its Starlight Recital is quite an effective defensive ability for team situations. It also provides a fair amount of crowd control.

However, Wigglytuff’s Unite move requires a longer cooldown than many other Supporters, hence limiting its usage. Still, its not a bad choice overall.

Trevenant

Trevenant is another bulky Defender that lacks in damage output and mobility. Its Horn Leech ability allows it to push back opponents and dash. Moreover, it can recover Hp using Lifesteals, improving its longevity in battle.

The Unite move also provides some good crowd control and ally buffs. The only problem being its moves will also self-inflict some damage, which could hinder gameplay in more ways than one.

Duraludon

A relatively strong Attacker, Duraludon has a wide array of AoE attacks in its inventory that provide some fair crowd control. Its attacks hit very hard and can knock out enemies very quickly. Moreover, its own passive abilities save him from getting thrown around.

However, it does get stunned after using some moves and lacks proper mobility, leaving it to be a fairly easy target.

Zeraora

Zeraora is a true Speedster with a plethora of mobile attacks in its inventory. Many of its standard attacks will paralyze enemies, all the while regenerating its Hp. Even though the Pokemon is quite agile, recent nerfs have affected its overall damage output.

Zeraora can masterfully gank its enemies but the moveset requires a good amount of precision. Missing your targets will result in utter chaos.

Venusaur

Venusaur’s crowd control has always been admired by players, alongside its good damage output being an Attack-type. Its premier ability Giga-Drain, when used correctly can dominate enemies and make the pokemon very sustainable.

Moreover, it can inflict a fair amount of ranged damage with Solar Beam. Not a bad Attacker when put in perspective.

Eldegoss

Eldegoss is a solid supporter with several effective defense capabilities. Its healing was once considered the best in the game up until some nerfs. Its Unite move is quite strong, lending the team the upper hand in team-based situations.

Honestly, Eldegoss has lost its significance as a top-tier supporter with the introduction of more powerful support units, but it still remains a good and viable option for many players.

Scizor

Scizor is an All-rounder type pokemon that offers a fair bit of crowd control. Al though you can easily have some great all-round capabilities with scizor, playing it in its base form i.e. Scyther will grant more speed and agility.

Overall, it does matter which form you choose to play, as you’ll need to learn their own respective movesets and tools, rendering the other form not-so-usable.

C-tier

Characters with below-average performance that generally do not fit their roles well. These Pokemon have consistently exhibited sub-par gameplay that does not fit well in a team-based setting. You probably won’t be too satisfied with what they have in store for you.

Charizard

Let’s be honest here, Charizard isn’t really too good at anything. It might be an All-rounder with fairly above-average damage output, it still fails to amaze. Moreover, it takes some time to level up, rendering the early game very weak and difficult.

It does have a powerful Unite move that can isolate enemies but outside of it, it has proven to be very weak against disables. Trying to excel at the game with it would require more than a fair bit of dedication

Slowbro

Slowbro could’ve been a good Defender with his Telekinesis ability, allowing it to literally remove opponents from the battlefield. But its complete lack of offensive capability overshadows a lot of its pros.

Moreover, its inability to move while using Telekinesis opens it up to enemy offense.

Espeon

Espeon is an Attacker who can deal some good burst damage and stun opponents. Its passive Magic Bounce ability allows it to disregard a lot of hindrances like a hit. It can also target more than a single enemy at a time.

But its combat utility is limited due to its annoying lack of proper mobility and speed. Moreover, the overall playstyle is a bit beginner-friendly but doesn’t fare well in competitive teamplay.

Mr.Mime

There was a time when Mr.Mime was regarded as a top-tier Support Unit in the Unite meta, but with the introduction of better characters, the pokemon’s popularity is now on the decline.

Even though its damage output is fairly high, the actual support characteristics like healing are nowhere to be seen. Overall, Mr.Mime is not really the best Supporter out there, to say the least.

D-Tier

This tier includes the absolute worst-performing Pokemon in the meta as of now. They lack almost any type of combat utility and suffer consistently in team play settings. Considering the abundant roster available to players, it is better not to choose these if you’re not too experimental.

Cramorant

Cramorant does have some moves that deal a solid amount of damage but is unbelievably fragile for an Attacker. It can literally launch its prey to enemies, dealing some fair bit of damage.

Nevertheless, the pokemon’s learning curve is exceedingly steep and the skill ceiling is too high, especially considering the utility it provides. Much better options are always available.

Crustle

Crustle’s main selling point was its versatility by virtue of which it could lower its defenses for a surge in attack power. Moreover, It has the ability to generate a wall and block off opponents.

But all this versatility seems to compromise its basic purpose i.e. being a Defender. Crustle lacks the ability to soak proper damage and isn’t the best attacker either. To top it all off, its slow recovery rate makes it more of a liability than a Defender.

Garchomp

Garchomp is a mobile All-rounder and provides a fair bit of crowd control. When repeatedly attacking, it can inflict some high damage. But all of that gets undermined by the low defensive capability and inability to properly handle combat in early game.

A pokemon that becomes invulnerable while using its Dig shouldn’t be this bad one might think, but the gameplay has proven otherwise.

Methodology and Criteria

We employ firm ranking criteria in order to generate our tier lists. The usability, utility, and power level of a pokeman is always prioritized when deciding upon its rank. Moreover, the overall impact the character has on the team is also scrutinized along with how well the said character fits its role.

In addition to all of this, community rankings and expert opinion were also taken into account while generating this tier list. We hope that this list serves you in its fullest capability.
